Czech Film Center

About Us

The office of the Czech Film Center (CFC) was established in 2002 on the initiative of the Audiovisual Producers' Association (APA) with the goal of systematically profiling contemporary Czech cinematography and the Czech film industry, primarily abroad. The APA also contributed considerably to the financing of CFC's activities until 2006.

In 2003 the public benefit organisation Czech Film Chamber (CFK), which started to ensure the operations of the Czech representation to the European MEDIA programme, was established. In 2004 the Czech Film Center came under the CFK.

The main goal and content of the CFC’s activities are the promotion of Czech cinematography and the Czech film industry abroad.

Structurally, the CFC is divided into 2 divisions

  • Film Promotion (FP), which is involved in the promotion of Czech films abroad
  • The office of the Film Commission (FC), which, on the contrary, provides services to incoming foreign film productions and promotes the Czech Republic as a shooting location, has been in operation since 2004

The CFC's main activities can be encapsulated into a few basic spheres, namely

  • Informational activities – providing up-to-date information on the state of Czech cinematography and the Czech film industry
  • Promotional activities – the coordination of promotional activities at important international festivals and markets, the organisation of promotional events in the framework of festivals in the Czech Republic
  • Publication activities – the publication of annual catalogues, DVDs and other regular or occasional publications
  • Networking – making and maintaining contacts in the area of the international film industry and the mediation of the necessary contacts to both Czech film professionals and foreign institutions, organisations and production and distribution companies with the goal of connecting to both already-existing and new structures operating in this area

You can find more information on Film Promotion’s activities in the ACtivitIES chapter

You can find more information on the Czech film industry and the Film Commission’s activities on the web pages www.filmcommission.cz.

Due to the nature of its activities, the Czech Film Center cooperates very closely with the Czech Ministry of Culture, and is currently almost exclusively financed from its funds.
