Description

Only films made after January 1, 2011 can be considered for 47th Karlovy Vary IFF 2012.

Films that had their festival premiere before July 2011 (in case of documentaries before October 2011) cannot be considered for the program.

Only those applicants whose DVD screeners are posted before March 30, 2012 will be considered for the 47th Karlovy Vary IFF (June 29 – July 7, 2012).

In case that the original language of the film is not English, the DVD screener must be provided with English subtitles. Please do not forget to send the following materials together with the DVD screener: press kit (if available), director’s CV, synopsis of the film. The materials sent by e-mail will not be accepted.

Karlovy Vary IFF does not screen short narrative films. If you are interested in submitting your short narrative film to Prague Short Film Festival (www.pragueshorts.com) please contact info@pragueshorts.com.

The festival program includes:

  • Official Selection – Competition (a non-specialized international competition of feature-length films; World, International and European premieres only)
  • East of the West – Competition (an international competition – first and second films from Central and Eastern Europe; World, International and European premieres only)
  • Documentary Films – Competition (an international competition divided in two categories – shorts [under 30 minutes] and feature-lengths [over 30 minutes])
  • Forum of Independents – Competition (an international competition of independent films)

and following non-competitive categories:

  • Horizons (the best from current season’s film production from around the world, including award-winning films from major festivals and local distribution’s avant-premieres)
  • Another View (films revealing unusual artistic approach in both form and content)
  • Midnight Screenings (shocking and hilarious films from the current season)
  • Czech Films (a representative selection of the local film production) 

The Selection Committee is led by Karel Och (artistic director). The members are Eva Zaoralova (artistic consultant), Ivana Novotna (senior programmer), Lenka Tyrpakova (programmer) and Viktor Palak (programmer).

Submitting a film

Before applying please read the festival regulations

If you want to submit a film, please fill out the on-line Film Entry form and then send us a DVD screener of your film together with the press kit (if available), director’s CV, synopsis of the film (it is not possible to send these materials by e-mail). The package should have a tag saying “NO COMMERCIAL VALUE – FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES ONLY“. The Selection Committee will then carry out the selection.

  • The festival does not charge any entry fee
  • Only films produced in 2011/2012 and provided with English subtitles can be presented at the festival. The festival does not accept short narrative films.
  • You will get a notification by e-mail, once we receive your DVD
  • We will inform you about the final decision of the Selection Committee by the end of May 2012.
  • YOU WILL BE SENT AN OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM ONLY IF YOUR FILM IS SELECTED
