Synopsis
When money is at stake, everything goes aside... When Martin Bauer, a successful and well-established lawyer, becomes a no less established and popular local politician, it takes him almost no time to discover that in politics, money, shares or land is quite easy to come by... Who cares if not through the fairest of means? While Martin’s wife Jana and son Jiří are glad to profit from his corrupt dealings, his daughter Marta is utterly disgusted with her father’s lack of ethics. The Gift takes place in the present and contains many motifs “copied” by the author from life. Martin’s story might well have happened in Prague, Berlin, Warsaw... It is a generally true story of a man who let himself be destroyed by his own position, of a man who gave his soul to the bribery devil for a little sack of gold. And the moment he realizes he is on the way to hell – and wants to shift into reverse – he lacks the strength to defy the powers he has unleashed.
