Synopsis
After the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the armies of the Warsaw Pact, Jan Palach, a student of the
Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, immolated himself in front of the museum on Wenceslas Square. On
January 16, 1969, he sacrificed himself in protest against the Czech citizenry’s growing lethargy, which
ensued after the acceptance of the Moscow Protocol. It was signed in Moscow by the Czech “Prague
Spring” government that, after a period of hope, betrayed its citizens once and for all. We examine the
historical facts presented here in light of recently discovered archive documents, photographs and film
materials, published for the first time in this investigative film.
