Synopsis
A paradox of an impoverished chateau wedged in rock and an exhausted village. How extensive is the scope of the coal tycoons' interests? Will the chateau and the surrounding villages disappear? Are there any winners and losers?
Coal in the Soul by Martin Dušek and Ondřej Provazník reveals two fundamental perspectives on brown coal mining in Northern Bohermia. Via chatelaine Hana and coal company spokesperson Liběna, the issue of breaking the mining ceilings is made clear. If the mining continues, there will be no chateau, no village of Hořní Jiřetín, and the landscape will need some hundred years to recover from the damage done by the winners.
