Synopsis
This biting comedy by Jan Hřebejk, set in the last three years of the Second World War, concerns a Czech family and their decision to help a friend in trouble - a Jewish fugitive FROM a concentration camp - by hiding him in their home. The film relativizes the notion of what it means to be a hero or a collaborator. The characters are small and fallible human beings affected by the huge tragedy of war. The movie was nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film.
