Synopsis
A horror comedy by surrealist Jan Švankmajer based on the classic Czech fairy tale of the same name, but transferred to contemporary Prague. Mr. and Mrs. Horák decide to raise a voracious tree stump as a substitute for the child they so desire but cannot have. The film combines acted scenes with a wide variety of special effects animation, including a cartoon sequence by the Eva Švankmajerová. Jan Hartl and Veronika Žilková excel in the starring roles.
