Synopsis

Set in a Northern Bohemian factory town in the 1960s, Vladimír Páral´s cult novel has been transferred to the screen as a grotesque reflection of human fate. An apartment building serves as the plot´s focal point: a workers´ room hosting occasional and long-term inhabitants, the factory director´s apartment, and men´s and women´s residence halls. Everyone here longs for love but their desires are appeased through rather vulgar sex. Then a young and gifted engineer named Borek Trojan enters this world and proceeds to live out a passionate love story, while at the same time reaching the peak of his professional carrier. But the feelings of contentment and happiness he expected as a victor are replaced by the nagging doubt that he is actually a loser. Is there an escape from this world?
