Synopsis

The director set out on her own for Afghanistan. Her goal was not to turn in another report about a country in a constantly shifting war, neither did she want to repeat images fot the fictional reality of the news. Her journey had a hidden, personal agenda represented by the question of love (esqh) - the film´s subject its raison d´etre and most beautiful mystery. Love is a symbol of vulnerable sacrifice, ans as a consequence it initiates an intimate search for "the promised time", Within their own homes, women doff their chadors revealing faces normally hidden. In their efforts to answer the director´s questions, other questions are raised about translating from one language to another, as well as about the differing cultral contexts experienced by the filmmaker and her subjects. Tje women´s eyes remain and beyond them, in the film´s second plane, contemporary Afghanistan is depicted through rawly realistic images of landscape, music, color, light and ornament.
