Synopsis
Under Communism, Koněv smeltery in Kladno produced “peace steel,” which was meant to be poured down the throats of the imperialists. After the fall of Communism and the downfall of the megalomaniac yet impressive Vladimír Stehlík, the smeltery was abandoned. The demise of Poldi Steel left behind 20,000 orphans and the workers’ colony became a ghetto. Koněv is turning into an industrial wilderness, the balance of nature returning, the locals steal from it like ants, extracting anything left that can be sold, money whetting their whistles, life is still invented. Bohumil Hrabal and Vladimír Boudník as relevant as ever.
