Synopsis

Although the protagonist of the story is over thirty, he has yet to experience true love. He hasn’t found it in relationships with women or in intimate relationships with men. He imagines that he can find fulfillment by running away to the countryside, by throwing himself into his profession as a teacher. Indeed, he has a gift for opening children’s eyes to the mysteries of nature. Yet he soon discovers that he cannot rid himself of his desires by escaping into isolation. He falls in love with a 17-year old boy and, at the same time, forms a deep bond of friendship with the boy’s mother. She has fallen in love with the teacher, but he is unable to confide in her that he is gay. After the boy breaks up with his girlfriend, the teacher offers his support and the result is a friendship which takes the form of a father-son relationship. Thus, the boy is that much more disappointed when the teacher is unable to control his sexual desire.
