Press ReleaseCzech Cinematography at Berlinale 2005
Prague, 4 February 2005 – For the third year in a row Czech Film Center (CFC) will promote Czech cinematography from 10 – 20 February 2005 at the European Film Market (EFM) as part of the international film festival in Berlin. Besides its traditional partner for the Czech stand at EFM, Czech Television – Telexport, CFC will have two new partners this year, the global Czech film distributor AQS and the Zlín International Film Festival for Children and Youth.
At the stand CFC will provide information on the current state of Czech film production in part by distributing the recently released 2004 catalogue and DVD of Czech film. Film professionals will also be able to obtain more information from CFC’s latest newsletter 1/05, which will be available together with other publications from February 10th.
Market screenings for industry professionals will be held to round out the promotional activities and give the professional public a complete overview of new Czech films. Film buyers and distributors who attend the festival regularly to get the scoop on new films will have an opportunity to view a total of 8 films (see attachment for full program).
Young actor Jan Budař will be introduced to the international press and film industry as Czech Shooting Star 2005. Over the course of three days (11-13 Feb) he and his European colleagues will have a unique opportunity to meet and network with international journalists and casting agents.
For the second year in a row, the panel discussion Talking Czech Film will be held in Berlin on Monday, February 14th at 7 p.m. This year’s theme, Telling, Writing, Visualizing: Czech Writers/Directors on Contemporary Storytelling, will focus on the issue of scriptwriting in Czech film today. The panel members for this year’s discussion, which will again be moderated by British journalist and correspondent for Screen International magazine Martin Blaney, are Alice Nellis, Saša Gedeon, Jan Budař and Börkur Gunnarsson.
The Berlinale Co-Production Market will also take place for the second year in a row on February 13th and 14th and will feature director Tomáš Mašín’s debut Three Seasons in Hell. According to Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick, the co-production market will round out the European Film Market’s activities. The project is also the feature film debut of producer Monika Kristlová (Dawson Production) and has already been presented at the co-production market in Cottbus.
