Freedom of Animation - Censored Czech Animated Films to Be Screened in Dresden
Prague, November 5, 2009 – Six animated films will be screened at 8 o’clock tonight in Dresden’s Motorenhalle as part of the 11th Czech-German Culture Days. The block of films, dubbed Freedom of Animation, commemorates the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which marked fundamental changes in the political and social landscape of Europe, thus naturally Czechoslovakia, too.
The program will feature The Hand (Jiří Trnka, 1965), Homunculus (Václav Mergl, 1984), Dimensions of Dialogue (Jan Švankmajer, 1982), an abridged, censored version of What Do You Think, Mr. Baron? (Ilja Novák, 1984), the original version of What Do You Think, Mr. Baron? (Ilja Novák, 1984), Dilemma (Pavel Koutský, 1985), and Disasters (Pavel Koutský, 1984).
The Czech animated film program is designed as an accompanying event of Fault Zones – The East Principle, a project organized by the Riesa efau cultural association from October 31 to November 23 in the capital of Saxony. This is the first project organized by Czech Film Center in collaboration with Riesa efau. Information about the complete program is available at http://www.riesa-efau.de or http://www.tschechische-kulturtage.de (also in CZ).
