This year, the Czech Short Films collection brings together works that have already resonated on the international scene along with those yet to premiere in the near future.
Every year since 2010, Czech Film Center offers a collection of the best of Czech bite-size category, which includes exceptional fiction, animation, documentary and experimental films - this time chosen by the jurors: Martin Horyna & Lenka Tyrpáková (Pragueshorts), Pavel Horáček (Anifilm), Daniel Vadocký (Negativ) and Vítězslav Chovanec (Czech Film Center).
Among the short films that have garnered the attention definitely stands Love, Dad by Diana Cam Van Nguyen. Animated documentary about the complicated relationship between a daughter and her father world-premiered in Locarno last summer and since then, the film won the prizes at Toronto IFF, BFI London or DOK Leipzig.
While animated short Sisters by Andrea Szelesová was introduced at the Annecy IAFF, also animated Red Shoes by Anna Podskalská represented Czech cinema at Cannes' Cinéfondation. Documentary I Am Trying to Remember was for the first time presented at IDFA in November. The Last Day of Patriarchy, a short by internationally acclaimed director Olmo Omerzu, also appears in this year's lineup.
The collection also includes films of talented filmmakers, whose festival run is at the beginning and their work is going to be seen at festivals this year: Progress by Lun Sevnik, Inversion by Lucia Kajánková, The Land of Cruciform Sun by Aleš Zůbek, Tomorrow's in a Few Hours by Jan Daniel and White Room by Jakub Jirásek.
The aim of the collection is to promote Czech short films and young talented filmmakers to international film industry professionals. The festival representatives, distributors and sales agents searching for new content, as well as journalists and other international players are warmly invited to register and view the films.
