In the Czech Republic, two major film awards are held annually: the Czech Lion Awards and the Czech Film Critics' Awards. These are accompanied by a handful of other prestigious awards such as the Trilobit Award (originally incepted in the 1960s) or the Pavel Koutecký Award for the most distinguished documentary films of the past year.

Czech Lion Awards (Český lev)

The Czech Lion Awards, first presented in 1993, is the most prestigious film award bestowed in the Czech Republic. The jury comprises the members of the Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA). The iconic lion statuette was designed by Rony Plesl, a recognized Czech designer and university teacher.

Czech Film Critics' Awards (Ceny české filmové kritiky)

An annual awards that recognize accomplishments in filmmaking and television. Originally incepted in 2010 as an alternative to the Czech Lion Awards. Organized by the Association of Czech Film Critics.

Trilobit Award (Audiovizuální cena Trilobit)

This annual award is one of the highest awards of achievement in film in the Czech Republic and one of the oldest – the first Trilobit was awarded in 1966. It was banned in 1970 but re-established in 1991. Organized by the Czech Film and Television Union (FITES).

Pavel Koutecký Award (Cena Pavla Kouteckého)

An award named after Pavel Koutecký (1956-2006), one of the leading Czech documentary filmmakers of his time, which is given to the best Czech documentary first or second film by a filmmaker, both in the feature and short film categories. Awarded annually since 2007. Presently handed out at the ELBE DOCK International Film Festival.

Ministry of Culture Award for Contributions in the Field of Cinematography and Audiovisual Works (Cena Ministerstva kultury za přínos v oblasti kinematografie a audiovize)

It is awarded to recognize exceptionally significant achievements or outstanding artistic, creative, interpretative, or technical achievements in the process of creation, production, dissemination, and preservation of cinematographic and audiovisual works or for research or promotional activities in the field of cinematography and audiovisual or for long-term merits in the field of cinematography and audiovisual. This award is awarded annually, as a rule, on 27 October.
