Surfing the frontier between the personal and the political, Czech-American filmmaker Tom Feierabend tells the story of both his own family and of Czechoslovakia. Across two continents and four generations, from California beaches to Bohemian rivers, from the corridors of power in Prague to Nazi concentration camps, from communist secret police to political exile, with the personal testimonies of family members and prominent Czechs including former President Vaclav Havel, this deeply personal contemplation of the filmmaker’s own identity offers unusual insight into a small nation that found itself engulfed by the great political upheavals of the twentieth century.
