Surrealist Jan Švankmajer's second feature film to fuse acting and animation. He transforms the Faustian theme into a journey traveled by a contemporary antihero (Petr Čepek) who has been 'attacked' by the classic story and manipulated into playing the protagonist. The battle waged between God and Satan for a human soul was technically realized using a wide variety of artistic and special effects.
