Czech painter Otto Placht has been artistically capturing the spirit of the Amazon jungle since the 1990s. He divides his time between his lakeside home on the suburb of Pucallpa in Peru and his apartment in an uptown Prague neighbourhood in the Czech Republic. Both his life and art represent a unique fusion of European, Western principles, which defined his upbringing, and philosophy and art of the Peruvian Shipibo tribe, which has changed his life. Director Alice Růžičková reunites with the jungle painter Otto Placht after 25 years and offers a fascinating portrait of an artist straddling two distant continents and cultures – and leading a life, the like of which most of us will probably never get to experience.
