Late spring, industrial town in central Poland. Hanna (15) divides her time between school and church choir, keeping her conservative mother (35) satisfied, while secretly envying her sister Paula (17) her independence. One evening, Paula shares a secret with her sister: she’s pregnant and she doesn’t want the child. Hanna feels torn between the chance to get closer to Paula and distancing herself from her mother and the values she believes in. Paula is determined to take back control of her own life, despite the risks. She tries to terminate on her own, while Hanna, against the moral ambiguity, supports her. Their attempts bear serious consequences, forcing the sisters to seek help in the hospital. They soon learn that the adult world is much more complicated than they thought.
