Miloš Šejn (*1947) is a progressive intermedia artist and former head of the Department of Conceptual Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. With a career spanning nearly 60 years, his work is featured in gallery collections worldwide. The protagonist of the documentary becomes a guide through the landscape where he has lived and created his entire life. In this observationally driven film, director Jakub Kučera explores his performances – acts that define both the physical and spiritual essence of his practice. The authorial approach of Because I Have to is characterized by a desire to delve beneath the surface of Miloš Šejn’s thinking, offering viewers an immersive experience of presence through his extraordinary performances and a unique access to his diverse archive.
